Half an hour later I was frying some bacon as I started the potatoes. I diced them up, rubbed them with butter and seasoning before removing the bacon and throwing them in the fryer. Then I decided to make fried French toast since my mates had liked it so much last time. After that I made some homemade fried donuts and fried eggs.

I smiled when I heard their separate alarms go off. A human wouldn’t have been able to, but with my heightened senses as a shifter, I was able to catch it. I turned on the coffeepot that I had set up early so they’d have some fresh-brewed and brought everything I’d made to the table.

“Fee, fie, fo, fum,” Drake growled from the living room. “I smell my mate and food.”

“Right on both accounts.” I chuckled as I finished the eggs. I let out a small purr and leaned back against him as his arms wrapped around me. “Good morning.”

“How are you feeling?” he asked gently as he kissed my neck.

“I slept like crap without my massive mates surrounding me, but I got a lot of thinking done.”

“Well, it’s Saturday so we can take a nap later if you get tired,” Blake said as he walked into the kitchen.

“I can always take a nap whenever I want,” I replied quietly as Drake took the last platter from me and put it on the table. “That’s something I’d like to discuss over breakfast if that’s alright?”

“Sure, but I’m not sure what you’re talking about.” Blake pulled out a chair for me before they both sat as well. It made me smile.

Such gentlemen I was mated to. “This all looks great, baby. You didn’t have to do this for us.”

“Cooking helps me think,” I replied with a shrug as my cheeks heated up. I wasn’t used to being praised like I was by them today.

“Well, we more than appreciate you cooking enough for us as well,” Drake said with a smile as he dug in. “It all smells great.” Stripes and Twin Horns

“Thank you.” I realized I was famished, so I filled my plate as well and we started eating. For a few minutes we sat in comfortable silence…Or so I thought.

“Okay, I’m sorry if I’m ruining a peaceful Saturday morning breakfast, but I have to know what you meant with your earlier comment.” Blake took a sip of his coffee and cleared his throat before continuing. “What’s wrong with being able to take a nap when you need to? We work from home and can do that as well. Have we done something else wrong or—”

“Blake, slow down,” I said gently as I placed my hand on his thigh. “No, you haven’t done anything wrong. All I meant was that I have no purpose in life and the one I had before obviously isn’t relevant.” I thought that was a gentle way of saying I used to be the kit’s whore basically. “And I realized last night if I
